ISO/TC 292 plenary meeting on Bali

2nd plenary meeting held on Bali

ISO/TC 292 successfully held its 2nd plenary meeting together with all its Working Groups on 30 November to 4 December. The Indonesian national standards body (BSN) hosted the meeting on Bali which attracted about 140 delegates representing more than 20 countries.

While the first meeting was focused on setting up an organisation for the committee, all efforts at this meeting was spend on the work programme for ISO/TC 292. Most of the six Working Groups met for the first time and spend much time on developing road maps for the work ahead. Even though each group has a specified area to work within, the boundries between the WGs needs to be further clarified to avoid overlaps and conflicting work.

Progress of work

ISO 22300 Security and resilience - Terminology is being revised and this will become a generic vocabulary document for all terms and definitions in ISO/TC 292. It was agreed to cancel to ISO 18641 Fraud and Countremeasures and control - Terminology  and incorporate relevant terms and definitions in the work of ISO 22300.

ISO 22311 Security and resilience - Video-surveillance - Export interoperability is also under revision but was only briefly discussed and the main work will start during the spring.

ISO 22316 Security and resilience - Guidelines for organizational resilience had received a substantial amount of comments which were resolved during the meeting and resulted in the merge of several clauses. The document will within short be circulated for DIS ballot. 

ISO 22319 Security and resilience - Guidelines for spontanious volunteers has gone quite fast through the developing process without any delays and is now ready to be circulated for DIS ballot. 

ISO 22320 Security and resilience - Emergency management - Guidelines for incident response is also under revision and it was decided to change its structure and a drafting team were set up to provide a new working draft based on the agreements made at the meeting. 

ISO 22325 Security and resilience - Emergency management - Guidelines for capability assessment had received some minor comments during the DIS ballots which was reslved during the meeting. The document is now ready to be published.  

ISO 22326 Security and resilience - Emergency management - Guidelines for monitoring of facilities with identified hazards was  discussed and another round internal commenting was agreed before moving to ballot.

ISO 22396 Security and resilience - Guidelines for information sharing between organisations was recently approved as a new work item proposal. The docement was briefly discussed and a plan for the work was agreed.

Its was agreed to change the ISO numbers to the ISO 34000 series for the projects on ISO 19564 Security and resilience - Product fraud countermeasures and control - General principles, ISO 19998 Security and resilience - Requirements for the content, security and issuance of excise tax stamps, and ISO 20229 Security and resilience - Guidelines for establishing interoperability among object identification systems to deter counterfeiting and illicit trade. These are all on the working draft stage and will be further discussed before moving to CD ballot.

New project proposals

Several new project proposals were presented and discussed during the week including:

  • Security and resilience - Business continuity management systems - Guidelines for business strategy
  • Security and resilience - Business continuity management systems - Guidelines for people aspects of business continuity
  • Security and resilience - Community resilience - Guidelines for supporting community response to vulnerable people
  • Security and resilience - Guidelines for business complexity analysis
  • Security and resilience - Professional development
  • Security and resilience - Emergency managment - Landslide early warning systems

Concluding remarks

After its first year it is clear that ISO/TC 292 is in an operational mode and the work of the three committees that were merged has continued without any delays nor interuptions. Numerous of new ideas for new standards in the area have been put on the table and the members needs to decide what projects that should should set the agenda for 2016.
